FAQ about AKR

Where are you located?

AKR operates nation-wide, meaning we accept and rehome dogs all over Australia. Our foster network is present across all states of Australia. A dedicated rescue transport network also helps us to access dogs in need in remote areas.

How do I surrender a Koolie?

If you find yourself needing to surrender or rehome your Koolie, please contact us through our email with as much information as you can about your Koolie.

How do I adopt a Koolie?

If you would like to adopt a Koolie please look at our Available Dogs and see if you think one will  match your home. If you are interested please submit an Adoption Application Form to our email letting us know the dog/s of interest.

How do I know if my dog is a Koolie?

The only way to be absolutely certain is if you know your dog’s parents/breeder. While some people who are educated on Koolies are able to give a good guess based on phenotype (how the dog looks), the next most accurate way would then be a DNA test through Embark(though this isn’t 100% certain). As a breed specific rescue we accept both known Koolies and dogs who we believe look/act like Koolies or Koolie crosses.

Do you also cater for Koolie crosses?

Yes, we rescue and rehome plenty of Koolie crosses.

Do you also rescue/rehome non-Koolies?

As a general rule, no. Our focus is on Koolies and Koolie crosses however at odd occasion we do have non-Koolies if they have been surrendered with a Koolie or other unique circumstances have mean they’ve landed in our care.

Do you rehome Koolie’s overseas?

No. The cost and the process of transport is very difficult and therefore we focus solely on rehoming our dogs inside of Australia.

Are the available dogs desexed?

Yes. All our rescue dogs come microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and desexed. There is no exception to this.

How much is it to adopt a dog through the Koolie Rescue?

All our dogs have the same fee of $350 for adoption. This helps contribute to the costs for medical expenses, transport and foster care. In certain cases, we may waive the adoption fee for special needs dogs who need very specific homes.

Do you accept donations?

Yes! Donations of either a monetary gift or items such as dog food, beds, coats or supplies are greatly appreciated. As a volunteer organisation, all donations go directly to our rescue dogs.
